Finding books using the Dewey Classification Scheme

The books in our library are classified according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System. When you look up a book in the library catalogue Oria, and choose locations, the book may for instance have this number: UHS, 327.51 Sof (locations).

The first three letters is a code showing that the book is situated in the Humanities and Social Sciences Library. The number is the dewey classification, giving info that the book is on the shelf together with books of foreign policy, 327. The decimal number, .51 is the dewey number for China, and hence we may see that the book is on Chinese foreign policy. The final code, Sof, is an alphabetical aid to help find the book in between all of the other books on Chinese foreign policy. The books in the library are arranged by subject according to the Dewey Decimal Classification System, and they may be found on three levels, depending on the subject.
