Writing and Publishing on the Web Using Github

This workshop introduces you to GitHub, a widely used platform for developing, managing and storing code and documentation. Today, GitHub is home to a growing number of research projects. Researchers and developers collaborate across institutional and national borders and share their code and software for data analysis alongside documentation, notes, and project reports.

You may be familiar with GitHub as a source of software, scripts, and programs. But, did you know that:

  • GitHub can be used to work on text documents?
  • GitHub enables collaboration on documents and software entirely through the web interface?
  • You can create a simple web page with a few clicks through GitHub?
  • You do not need any knowledge of the command-line version control tool ‘git’ to do all this?

This course will teach you how to do all of these things, and more. It is aimed at graduate students and researchers at UiO and OUS and tailored towards those with very little or no experience with git, GitHub, or similar programs/services.

NB! On Friday, November 5 (10:00–11:00) there will be a Q&A session online for those who have started experimenting with GitHub.
