Carpentry Workshop: Databases and SQL

Do you want, or need, to learn how to work with databases for your research, but have little or no previous knowledge? Do you want to refresh your basic skills in SQLite? Or, do you want your team members to learn how to use and create databases? If yes, then this workshop is for you and/or your team!

Who is this workshop for?

  • For graduate students, PhD-candidates, postdocs, and other researchers who:
    • want to learn how to work with databases
    • want to learn the query language SQLite 
    • want to learn how to manipulate data in databases using SQLite
  • Participants are not required to have any previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented at the workshop.

Prerequisites

  • Participants need to bring a laptop with a Mac, Linux, or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc.) on which they have administrative privileges.
  • If you do not have administrative rights on your computer, please get in contact with your local IT, to get the necessary software and tools installed.
  • Please ensure to have a few specific software packages installed, which are listed with step-by-step guides in the full course description.
  • There will be time for troubleshooting any issues related to installation 30 minutes before the workshop starts.
  • Participants who arrive at the workshop without having installed and tested the software packages cannot participate.

Workshop format

The workshop will be held on-site in Kristine Bonnevies hus, Proteome 3627.

Please note that our registrations are operated on a first comes first-served basis, and should we receive more sign-ups by individual learners than our capacity allows, priority will be given to UiO/OUS staff and students.
