Introduction to NVivo

NVivo is a complex software for qualitative research that can be used to code text, sound, image, and video.

Image may contain: Plant, Twig, Tree, Art, Tints and shades.

Learning outcomes

After attending the course you will:

  • Understand NVivo's user interface and concepts
  • Be familiar with central functions and how to use these
  • Know how to import and structure source material
  • Be able to code, classify, annotate, and retrieve material

Practical information

Remember to bring your computer with NVivo installed or ready to use via UiO Programkiosk. If you need assistance with installation, you can contact course instructor or the local IT manager at your unit, as there will be limited time for installation during the course.

  • Please prepare some text files to work with. For those who do not have specific research files at this stage, article PDFs or other relevant documents available to you can be utilized for the practical exercises and demonstrations during the course. 

Working methods

Demonstration with practical examples and exercises. Instruction in English unless everyone is competent in Norwegian, and we can also answer questions in Norwegian.
