Description
Publishing your research results openly, in a form of preprints, Open Access articles and books, has become a new academic norm. Numerous research institutions and research funders are creating strategies and requirements to make research results openly available to everyone. But do you have an overview of all requirements? Do you want to know more about preprints? How to choose the best way to publish Open Access? Or how to utilise UiO’s publishing deals?
In this 90-minute course we will introduce you to the different parts of the publishing process: from preprints, through peer-review, to publishing Open Access. We will discuss their benefits and limitations, and we will give you some practical tips for getting through this process.
We will wrap up with a question and answer session where you will be able to ask us any questions you might have about this topic!
Target Audience
Primarily PhD students, postdocs, researchers, and research support staff at the University of Oslo and Oslo University Hospital. There are a few spots for external participants and participants from other Norwegian/Nordic universities are especially welcome to attend.
Learning Objectives:
After the course, you will:
- Be acquainted with preprints and their archives
- Have an overview of peer-review process, and its different types
- Understand different ways of Open Access publishing, and how to choose the best way for you
- Know what is self-archiving
- Know how to recognise and avoid predatory journals
- Be acquainted with a difference between NPI level 1 and 2 journals
- Know how to utilise UiO's publishing deals and discounts
Setup
The course will take place digitally on Zoom and meeting link will be sent out to the registered participants the day before the course.
