Zotero reference management tool

Zotero is a smart reference and research tool suitable for collaboration. In this workshop, you will learn how to collect, organize, and share your bibliographies, cite as you write, and mark up and annotate your research material.

Learning outcomes

After attending this workshop, you will know how to use Zotero to

  • collect and organize sources you may have or find in Oria, Google Scholar, and other databases, or record manually
  • tag and annotate material individually and as a group
  • share and publish bibliographic databases
  • cite as you write in Word (or Google Docs, LibreOffice, or any other word processor you might use)

Working methods

Demonstration with practical examples and exercises. Instruction in English when needed, but we can also answer questions in Norwegian. 

Target audience

This course is open to all UiO students, faculty, and employees. 

Practical information

Please bring your laptop with Zotero installed. 

1. Install Zotero.

  • Private laptop: download and install from Zotero (free)
  • UiO's laptop: install from Software Center

2. Get the Zotero Connector for your browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Safari).

  • Pin the connector to your browser.

3. Register to get a free account with a username and password of your choice.

  • Add your UiO email for unlimited storage, and another email to keep your library when you leave UiO.

If any of this is unclear, we will help you during the workshop.
