    Norwegian | Writing Oasis (DSC) 

    Get started with the Zotero reference tool! Reference tools simplify the job of writing bibliographies and help you keep track of your references. This workshop is suitable for both beginners and more experienced users. Workshop with Julie Skattebu and Tarjei Fiskergård Werner, Librarians at the University Library
     
  • 17:15–18:00 Mental health during the writing process

    Gain more insight into what affects your mental health and what you can do to take care of it during the writing process. Interactive lecture by psychologist Karin Magdalena Erichsen from SiO.

    Come and discuss your ideas, drafts and questions with one of the Academic Writing Centre’s writing consultants (up to 15 minutes). 
     
  • 18:15–23:00 Shut up & Write!

    Shut up & Write is a tried-and-true method for structuring the writing process and avoiding distractions. Come and find your writing flow with others. We'll keep track of the time and give you well-deserved breaks where you can enjoy tea or coffee, run necessary errands, check social media, etc. 
     
  • 18:15–19:00 Don't do what Sandra says!

    Lecture with Henrik Keyser Pedersen.

    "I think everyone who writes a master's thesis gathers bits here and there, pastes it into a document and then rewrites it as their own," said former Education Minister Sandra Borch. In this lecture, academic librarian Henrik Keyser Pedersen will explain how to avoid plagiarism. What is plagiarism? What is self-plagiarism? What is paraphrasing? Why is reference style important? How do I consciously work with other's texts? Where can I get help? 


  • 18:15–19:00 Crash Course in Exphil Writing 
    Norwegian | Writing Oasis (DSC)

    An introduction to what it means to argue and discuss independently. The introduction addresses two examples: one example illustrating a common understanding of discussion (drøfting), and another example demonstrating independence. The introduction is especially tailored to the argumentative genre of the second mandatory assignment in Exphil at the University of Oslo. Bring the assignment text, writing materials, and the Exphil book. Course with Ali Jones Alkazemi, Writing mentor at the Academic Writing Centre. 

     

  • 18:15–19:00 Combat Procrastination!

    What is procrastination? Why do we do it? And what can we do to combat it? Gain a better understanding of why you procrastinate and what you can do to better avoid it in the future. Lecture with Kristian Drøsshaug, Coordinator at the Academic Writing Centre.

    A quick workshop from SiO offering "Investigating me", which focuses on the connection between mental and physical health through, among other things, exercise, mindfulness, nutrition, sleep, and stress management. 
     

     

Practical information

Bring stationery, laptop and your own notes. If you plan to stay all evening, it may be a good idea to bring food and drink. We serve free coffee, tea and some snacks.
