What is the Data Stewardship Wizard (DSW)?

DSW is a dynamic forms system operated within a web browser. It provides:

  • Templates adhering to both national and international requirements, including ones from Science Europe and Horizon Europe.
  • A special template aligned with the machine-actionable data management plan (maDMP) standard. This comes highly recommended by The Research Council of Norway.

Why is DSW Important?

It's fast emerging at both national and European levels as the primary solution for creating and handling Data Management Plans (DMPs).

What Will This Workshop Cover?

Participants will learn:

  • How to create a DMP, either from scratch or using set recommendations.
  • Methods to export the DMP to meet the requirements of funding bodies.
  • An overview of DSW's capabilities, including handling different DMP models and version control.
  • Detailed demonstrations on adapting generic questionnaires for specific domains or use cases.

Additionally, an extensive practical session will guide participants in using a dedicated instance of DSW for crafting and customizing a DMP questionnaire.

Learning outcomes

  • Understanding how an organisation or research group can adopt DSW to users within a certain domain
  • Starting a new DMP on DSW, from scratch or from a set of pre-filled recommendations
  • Sharing and working collaboratively on the DMP
  • Assessing the FAIRness of your dataset based on the DMP
  • Export a DMP according to funders' templates, including the Science Europe template (adopted by the Research Council of Norway) and Horizon Europe
  • Creating customised questionnaires and adapting existing ones; making these questionnaires public

Prerequisites

A general understanding of DMPs and common practices in data management is an advantage. No additional software is required, but the participants are requested to create an account beforehand on UiO’s instance of DSW (https://uio.ds-wizard.org).

Target audience

While the workshop is open to everyone, we particularly welcome data managers, PIs, and academic staff with particular responsibility for the data generated in a project.
