The ability to take a holistic approach to data is a strong feature of genuine human intelligence. Humans are good at integrating diverse information, considering context, and making connections between seemingly unrelated data points, which is harder to replicate with artificial intelligence. In the workshop, we will perform the time-frequency analysis of seismic data and convert them to music, the process known as sonification. This approach is both a great illustration of time-frequency analysis and a useful domain for data interpretation.

Learning outcomes

  • Data import and basic processing of time series

  • Perform basic time-frequency analysis- Convert signal to audible MIDI format and analyze the relation between a time series and its sonic representation
