Online Search

Search for references directly from EndNote using Online Search.

Online Search is used to search for references directly from EndNote. This is a useful feature if you want to retrieve references from databases that either do not have an export feature or have an unusual or difficult search interface. Various national and university libraries have their catalogs searchable here.

  1. Click the Online Search Mode button (see EndNote Interface)
EndNote 20: Online Search is available in the Groups panel.
  2. Select database, e.g. Library of Congress.
  3. You will find a search panel that is customized to the database you are looking for. Choose the right search box (author, year, etc.) Be precise in the search.
  4. If necessary, select how many of the references you want to look at (the latest ones come first) and click OK
EndNote 20: proceed to step 5.
  5. Highlight relevant references and click the Copy to Local Library button in order to add them to your library.
EndNote 20: Highlight relevant references and click the Add the selected online records to your local library button in order to add them to your library.
