Velkommen til en hel måned med aktiviteter, spesielt tilpasset deg som hadde KLoK-uke i januar 2021 og nå skal skrive prosjektoppgave. Delta på søkekurs, foredrag om akademisk skriving, kurs i kildebruk, kritisk vurdering og referering, og få hjelp og veiledning av bibliotekarer og skrivementorer.

For the November edition of the PhD and Post-doc Breakfast Club, we welcome research librarian Heidi Sjursen Konestabo from the Department of Biosciences to talk about figures, maps and datasets.

For October’s edition of PPBC, we are delighted to welcome back Sølvi Haavik, an Adviser at the Studies Section of the MN Faculty, to share her valuable insight into the world of intercultural communication. 

10 October is World Mental Health Day! Its objective is to raise awareness of mental health issues around the world and mobilize efforts in support of it. UiODoc would like to take this opportunity to provide a talk in regards to mental health for PhD and postdocs at UiO. Therefore, we invited Ingvild Mageli, a PhD in economics to give a talk about PhD struggles called “especially independent” which dives into psychosocial well-being aspects.

Imposter syndrome probably affects most of us, and can seriously affect our mental health, confidence, and happiness. This talk by Hugo de Boer aims to analyse and relativise imposter syndrome, as well as provide insights to mitigate its effects.

On September 14 2021, UiODoc will hold its Annual General Assembly. We welcome all PhDs and postdocs at the University of Oslo to come attend the meeting to learn more about UiODoc’s work, to have your say about our agenda and bring up anything for discussion, to get involved with our activities or simply to enjoy your afternoon with colleagues and good food.

From July 14 to July 15 the Eurodoc Conference 2021 will take place with the theme "Improving Doctoral Training in Europe".

The Conference will be followed by the AGM on July 16-17.

Happy June folks! For this month's PhD & PostDoc's Breakfast Club, we have Katharina Vestre as our speaker where she will be sharing her experience in the field of science communication.

We may hate it or love it, but applying for grants is a major part of life in present-day academia. Grant proposal writing is therefore a life-saving skill - and for that reason we have invited UiO researcher Folmer Bokma to give us a talk on how to write excellent grant proposals. 

The Pint of Science festival aims to deliver interesting and relevant talks on the latest science research in an accessible format to the public – mainly across bars, pubs, cafes, and other public places. The Pint of Science provides a platform to enable discussions on research between scientist and the Norwegian community without requiring previous knowledge. Pint of Science is a non-profit organization, run by volunteers and was established by a community of postgraduate and postdoctoral researchers in 2012. The main festival takes places over three days in May simultaneously in pubs across the world.

Just as the deadlines are approaching, we have invited UiO's EU office to give us a talk about EU research grants from a PhD and postdoc point of view.

For March's edition of PPBC, we will go on a journey into intercultural communication delivered to us by Sølvi Haavik, who is an Adviser at the Studies Section of the MN Faculty experienced in intercultural relations.

UiODoc is ready for the year's very first PhD and Postdoc Breakfast Club! We hope you will join us in listening to Matthew Good's timely talk about his Digital Scholarship Center project and the increasingly important digital research.

The pandemic, while still ongoing, has already had a dramatic impact on UiO activity and highlighted issues with implications that are yet to be fully grasped. This panel discussion is an attempt at opening up a UiO-wide conversation that will enable influential voices in the university research environment to share their experience and perspectives on this situation. Specifically, we will focus on: 

• How does COVID-19 affect early career researchers?

• What are the institutions doing to mitigate the impact?

• What are foreseeable difficulties on the implementation of such measures?
