Summary:
This week, we supported a Master student in finalizing his thesis project about inducing curiosity via a touch table application. Furthermore, we were involved in organizing a library carpentry session and gathering associated datasets.
Specific activities, including:
- Activities related to the upcoming Library Carpentry workshop on data processing and visualization in June (Hugo, Ahmed, Dan Michael)
- Obtain datasets, get permissions for usage, test-drive visualization tools
- Suggesting an initial program for the workshop
- Planning our further activities around VIRAK in June (Hugo)
- including the visit of our guest speakers from NCSU Libraries in the United States.
- Finishing a book chapter on collaborative approaches to research data management (work Hugo started during his PhD and finalizes at UiO)
- Supporting Yaron in the finalization of his Master thesis project on curiosity (Kyrre, Hugo, Dan Michael)
- This week, we generated basic statistics and “heatmaps” of interactions with the touch table application, aiming to get a better view on its usage
Meetings, including:
- Checking datasets from Alma Analytics which can be used in the Library Carpentry workshop (Geir, Christine,Hugo, Ahmed)
- In the end, we obtained 8 datasets which can be interesting to process in OpenRefine and visualize in different Tools
- 5 from Alma Analytics, 3 from Primo Analytics
- Inspecting the obtained Alma Analytics datasets and thinking of interesting questions surrounding them (Hugo, Ahmed)
- Attending the “breakfast meeting” and initial launching of Frilux, a Scandinavian network for UX in libraries (everyone)
