How to make research more visible?

Learn about different tools, platforms and services to share your research and other contributions, and how you utilise them to make yourself and your work more visible to the academic community and the society at large.

Description

Research today is a multifaceted process, making you, the researchers, more than just published authors. You are also lecturers, supervisors, project leaders, administrative leaders, collaborators, peer reviewers, among other things. But how do you present all the aspects of your work in the best way? Are there some tools or services that might help you?   

In this 90-minute course we will introduce you to the tools and practices in making all your research activities more visible, and we will discuss their benefits and limitations. Additionally, we will give you some practical tips for getting best out the different visibility services and platforms.

We will wrap up with a question and answer session where you will be able to ask us any questions you might have about this topic!

Target Audience

Primarily PhD students, postdocs, researchers, and research support staff at the University of Oslo and Oslo University Hospital. There are a few spots for external participants and participants from other Norwegian/Nordic universities are especially welcome to attend.

Learning Objectives:

After the course, you will:

  • Be acquainted with different bibliometric indicators (such as number of citations, h-index, and the journal impact factor), and their strengths and limitations
  • Be acquainted with altmetrics (alternative to bibliometrics), what does it measure, and what are its strengths and limitations
  • Know about what future holds for researcher evaluation and assessment
  • Know what unique researchers’ identifiers, such as ORCID, are, and how to utilise them in the best way
  • Get an overview of different visibility services and social media platforms you can use for promoting your research

Setup

The course will take place digitally on Zoom and meeting link will be sent out to the registered participants the day before the course.
